Kybella
What is Kybella?
Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment containing synthetic deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into targeted areas, it destroys fat cell membranes, causing them to break down and be naturally eliminated by the body over time. Once destroyed, those fat cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, making results long-lasting.
What is it used for?
Kybella is primarily used to reduce submental fullness — commonly known as a “double chin” , by permanently destroying fat cells beneath the chin and jawline. It contours and defines the jawline without surgery, creating a slimmer, more sculpted profile.
Who Can Benefit from Kybella?
Kybella may be a great option for adults who:
- Have moderate to severe submental fat (double chin) that is resistant to diet and exercise
- Want a non-surgical alternative to liposuction or neck lift procedures
- Are at or near their ideal body weight but struggle with isolated fat pockets under the chin
- Have good skin elasticity (skin that can contract well after fat reduction)
- Are in good overall health with no infections in the treatment area
- Have realistic expectations about gradual, progressive results over multiple sessions
Important Considerations
- Most patients require 2–6 treatment sessions, spaced at least one month apart
- Common side effects include swelling, bruising, numbness, and redness at the injection site
- It is not recommended for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have had prior neck surgery, or have difficulty swallowing.
- Kybella offers a clinically proven, minimally invasive path to a more defined chin and jawline — with no scalpels, no general anesthesia, and no significant downtime.
